Winter Tummy Warmer

Hey everyone! I know this is a bit random and i breaking topic but i just couldn’t help it… Plus, i figured there isn’t a person out there who around the holidays, wouldn’t like to find out about a few new tasty snacks. Yes! you guessed it, this is a baking blog post. Dont worry, its nothing too complicated (trust me, im a worse cook than you… i burnt ramen once… yes ramen… on fire) So ill try to keep it simple… for the both of us! The first fun holiday thing i have to share is my FAVORITE winter (well i guess fall) drink right now. Ever had a craving for something salty AND sweet like oh i dunno… say popcorn and nutella? Well look no further, i have the perfect solution. A salted caramel hot chocolate. If you’ve ever had the salted caramel mocha from Starbucks (mmm) then i can guarantee you’ll love this almost as much as i do (its even got less caffeine for those of you out there who like me, have enough energy as it is). Well anyways! lets get down to it!

*Note… not only is this easy but it takes no time to make!*

What you’ll need…

Saucepan

Your favorite mug!

Hot chocolate mix (yup were keeping it simple folks)

Natural cane sugar

Sea salt

Caramel sauce

Whipped cream

Milk

First off, pick your mug! Now take 2 tsp. of caramel sauce (you can add more or less depending on your preference… Basically all this does is coats the bottom of the mug.) Now turn on your stove and heat one cup of milk with three tbs. of the hot cocoa mix. Stir it up! Now comes the fun part. Take your mug and pour the hot cocoa in. Stir again 🙂 i love to stir things. Add whipped cream to taste (personally i like tons). Now sprinkle in just a little sea salt… Not too much, as its so strong all ready as well as some sugar (usually just a packet of “in the raw” will do). And then feel free to drizzle on some more caramel. And taa daa! Your set to drink. Enjoy!c7e8afffd7ed43f7939570f4c796838c

An Acne Time Machine

It seems like so long ago since i had the perfect skin of a seven year old. Ahhhh to remember that flawless look. If there was anything i could tell myself before that first dreaded zit, heres what it would be.

                                                Image

  • Bacteria is not the only cause of acne! Alot of it, has to do with oils. Bacteria cant survive without the oils on our skin. If you have a choice between anti-bacterial, and something to help clear your pores of the oil, go with the oil helper! You get rid of the oil, you get rid of the majority of the bacteria and you might even get rid of some acne!
  • Dont be afraid to break out! I remember when i first got acne, i’d try out a new product. In most cases, a few days later, i was breaking out. I always freaked, and threw it away stating simply “it doesn’t work.” Long story short, your skin needs to purge. Click here to see why some breakouts are a good sign!
  • Just because you dont have acne, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wash your face. Not only could i have cleaned off the makeup, or dirt, or whatever else i managed to get on myself that day, but i might have been able to partially prevent any future acne.
  • You are what you eat. Though not everyones bodys and skin acts the same, i know when i eat high fatty or oily or sugary foods, not only do i feel gross, but so does my skin.
  • Even non-comidogenic makeup can cause acne! I thought i was so smart, buying non-comidogenic makeup, thinking i could leave it on for as long as i wanted and still be acne free! Fact is, our skin needs to breathe, and no matter what kind of makeup you wear, it clogs our pores.
  • Dont fuss when mom slathers that sticky sunscreen on you! This ones just a given… you’ll protect yourself from dark spots and discoloration but also from harmful uv rays.

ImageSo guys, if you could go back in time and talk to a younger you, what would you tell him or her? It doesn’t need to be about acne but what would you want to make sure you knew? Leave it in the comments below, i love hearing from you all ❤ ciao for now!!

Lets move!

Now i know the election is still fresh in our minds, and i dont want to start a fight or bring up any touchy subjects so im going to start out by saying that this is not meant to be offensive in the slightest. I just wanted to talk a little bit about someone who is making a HUGE difference in alot of childrens lives. Helping them to become healthy, fit, and happy. Michelle Obama, current first lady of the United States is has used her easy publicity to let her voice be heard and to make a change. .Her campaign, Let’s Move!,  is dedicated to solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams. She helps to put kids on the track to a healthy future from the begining. If you need statistics, info, or even tips to get heathy, one of the most reliable sources you can find, is the first lady’s official website campaign,  http://www.letsmove.gov/. Most first ladys are just that, the presidents wife, but I admire the way Michelle is using her power to make a difference.

Lets Get to It!

Papaya, Yogurt and Honey Facial Treatment

Keep the peel on if you’d like a stronger mask or remove it if you have sensitive skin. Place the papaya, a tablespoon of unflavored yogurt and 2 teaspoons of raw honey (Manuka honey is best) into a good blender and blend until it’s smooth. (if you don’t have a good blender, then i suggest you get one. Their really useful not only for facials but for smoothies, soups, pestos, and hundreds of other great recipes!  My blender is the 1000 watt blender from cuisinart and i absolutely love it) After everything is nice and smooth, pour the mixture out into a bowl and head to your room with a towel. If you have long hair, it might be worth tying back. Put the towel over your pillow and gently apply the mix onto your face avoiding your eyes. Now just relax for 10-15 minutes. Put on some music, read a book, watch tv, play angry birds. Enjoy yourself! Keep in mind that your skin might feel a little tingly but this shouldn’t be painful. if it is rinse off IMMEDIATELY and moisturize your face, preferable with aloe-vera gel. When 15 minutes have gone by, head to the bathroom and rinse that ice goo down the drain. Your skin should feel refreshed and happy, thanks to those oh so wonderful papayas.  Follow with a toner if you use one and a natural, chemical free moisturizer. Alternatively, try avocado oil as a face moisturizer for much deeper penetration. if you decide that you like it, use it once or maybe twice a week, and soon you should see some real improvement.

Papaya Peel Rub

For a simpler, on the go way to use papaya to improve your skin, try keeping the peel after you’ve scooped out the pulp and yummy insides. Rub the papaya skin directly onto your face, in the evening (or morning) before showering and leave it on for a minute or two. It feels better if you shower it off while it’s still a bit moist, rather than letting it dry tight. This simple rub can be used not just on your face, but can be used on any part of your body that you think needs improving and its super easy to apply. People even say that this can diminish age spots, small acne scars and blemishes and can even be of great relief for sun damaged skin.
Hope this helped you out guys! Please enjoy! Comment and let me know if you tried it or if you have any other great facials and homemade remedies you know about. Id love to know!!

Papaya; wonderfruit!

Is your acne getting bad? Got endlessly oily skin and makeup clogged pores? Well there are dozens of things you can do to help but this facial and rub, is one of my absolute favorites.

Papaya is full of alpha hydroxy acids and enzymes like papain that break down dead skin cells when used on skin. Regular use of the fresh fruit on your face often leads to a more even tone, better texture, smoother appearance, and even reduction in fine lines and wrinkles! Papaya facial treatments are also useful for treating acne, minor scarring, sunburn and age spots and if used over time, can lead to a slight skin lightening. This is something to be aware of if you’re working on your tan, but is generally seen as a good thing, it will even leave your skin glowing. Papaya peel actually contains even more papain enzymes than the fruit so if you want a more effective treatment you can use the pal rub below. If you have very sensitive skin it may be best to first try the facial without the papaya peel and then add a quarter or half of the peel in the future to see how it affects your face. Unripe papaya contains more papain than the ripe fruit so for a stronger facial treatment you could use a papaya that is still green, but you wouldn’t get the benefit of eating the tasty fruit! Personally, I don’t want to miss out the joy of eating papaya, and ones that are just ripening contain more antioxidants than green papaya so it creates a good balance. My skin seems to think so.

Well thats about enough background on Papayas! Lets get to it!

Exercise for Those Who Hate It! Get Active Everyday!

Constantly busy. No time. Too much homework. Your favorite show is on. Don’t worry, I’ve used the same excuses and i feel your pain. I hate to exercise just as much as the next person. Need some sneaky tips on easy exercises you can do every day? Look no further!

1. Take the stairs. I know people always say take the stairs take the stairs but hey! its adequate advice. From now on make it a point to park on the bottom level of the parking garage and walk to the top instead of taking the elevator. Make it a point to walk up and down those cozy stairs in your house five times ever morning. its great for the legs, glutes, and if you do it enough it can be great cardio!

2. Hanging with friends? Get active! Whenever i make a date with my friends we go see a movie, or go to lunch. Why don’t you do something active! Take a hike! Go rollerblading! Take a trip to the local ice-rink! Plus, exercising with friends if better then doing it alone.  Make a point of getting active and having fun. Think outside of the box.

3. Pace. Are you constantly on the phone like me? Well a sneaky way to get some easy exercise is to pace when your on the phone. Instead of sitting on the couch painting your toesies, stand up and zone out. walk in circles. walk from one end of the house to the other. it seems silly but its easy and you barely know your doing it.

There are lots of other sneaky tips about exercise and i just want to give creds to my absolute favorite you-tuber Cassandra Bankson. 🙂 These are her tips and i just thought id share them with you. If you want to see the rest of them and a little elaboration look for her channel, and a link to the video below. Subscribe to her! Shes amazing and absolutely posotutely hilarious! You wont be dissapointed.
